I have been active and successful for twenty-five years as a painter of commissioned realistic and lifelike portraits of pets. In recent years I have only occasionally accepted assignments for various reasons. From January 1, 2020 I stopped commercial painting, so it is no longer possible to have your pet painted by me.
That does not mean that I stop drawing and painting:
When I was about 16 years old I came into contact with work by surrealist painters such as Rene Magritte, Paul Delvaux and afterwards I saw works by Dutch Magical Realistic painters such as Theo Voorzaat, Hans Kanters and Willink. These painters inspired me to take drawing and painting lessons and also start making this kind of work. More or less by coincidence, however, I rolled into portraying pets and because of the merits it was difficult to stop.
Now I have turned the button and want to focus as much as possible on surrealism.
I also discovered the Urban Sketching this year. That is sketching in the open air, usually in groups, in sketchbooks. Very nice to do because there is no artistic or commercial pressure on it and because the street artists are generally very pleasant people. The pleasure comes first.
